I feel a deep sense of fulfilment finally organising this duplex apartment—a space shaped by thoughtful architectural planning and an imagination of how visitors and tourists might experience its calm and intentional beauty. More than a physical structure, this space symbolises growth, vision, and the long journey that brought me here. I invite you to experience it and share your thoughts.
My name is Abolaji Adewale Obileye, an indigene of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, Nigeria. Reflecting on my path—from Nigeria to the United States—the distance travelled is not merely geographical but deeply personal and transformational. Each step has been guided by resilience, learning, and a commitment to creating meaning beyond self.
I am currently a Ph.D. student in Sociology at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, USA. Before this, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Education (B.Sc. Ed.) in Sociology from Tai Solarin University of Education and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Sociology, with distinction, from Olabisi Onabanjo University. These academic experiences prepared me for active engagement within the university system and sharpened my desire to translate knowledge into real-world impact.
This desire ultimately gave rise to CRISTAM (Connecting Resources for International Students in America)—a community-driven platform and initiative designed to support international students as they navigate life, education, and settlement in the United States. CRISTAM reflects both my academic training and lived experience as an immigrant, offering access to essential resources, shared stories, and a sense of belonging for those finding their footing in a new environment.
My research interests span social protection, human rights, gender-based violence, and recidivism, themes that align closely with CRISTAM’s mission of dignity, inclusion, and support for vulnerable populations. Beyond scholarship and community work, I find joy in capturing meaningful moments with my Canon camera, preserving stories, spaces, and experiences that speak to resilience and beauty.
I am an advocate for preserving nature, and I hold firm beliefs in God, self-development, friendship, entrepreneurship, and charity—values that guide both my personal life and the ethos behind CRISTAM.
